You Stay Classy San Diego

Flights and hotel are booked!  San Diego here I come!  I have never been to San Diego and it has always been on my list of places to visit.  My dad was in the navy and was stationed out there.  My parents, who still live in Connecticut, always said if they did not live in CT they would move back to San Diego.  They LOVED it there.  I cannot wait to visit and see what all the hype is about.

Fun fact: my dad was actually stationed on USS Midway Aircraft Carrier that is now a museum in San Diego.

For traveling over 2,700 miles to a location where Business Insider ranked 11 out of 20 of America’s most expensive city for renters in August 2015, I got a great deal!  When I was researching I was finding round trip flights were costing over $1400 for a couple, which was almost my entire budget.  However with a little research and a lot of patience I booked a bundle hotel and flight deal through Expedia for four nights and two round trip tickets.  I only paid $1771.96!

Here are the details of the deal.  (Please note that prices do fluctuate.)

I am staying at Tower23 which is boutique, contemporary style hotel directly on Pacific Beach.  Whenever I book a vacation I always do extensive research.  When looking for hotels I look at amenities offered, reviews, location, and of course PRICE!  What I loved about Tower23 was that it was directly on the beach.  They offer complimentary chairs for the beach and well as bikes to use at your leisure.  They offer you complimentary cocktails upon your arrival.  For all of those that know me well, this was the closer to the deal.  It received 4.5 stars from TripAdvisor.  I called the hotel directly and spoke with Ryan at the front desk who was very friendly and helpful.  I requested a room on the second floor not directly above the bar or restaurant.

(I read these tips in the TripAdvisor reviews.)  The second floor apparently has a easy access to the private terrace.

I will finally be able to check off one of my items on my bucketlist: paragliding!!!!!  I have a love for adrenaline.  I’ve already gone skydiving three times, cage diving with great white sharks, taken a microlite flight over Victoria Falls, and white water rafted down the Zambezi, Snake and Salmon Rivers.

I am going to check out Torrey Pines Gliderport which received 4.5 stars from TripAdivsor and from Yelp.  It was the only paragliding company I found in the area where I am staying.

I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts and experiences!

    1. Besides paragliding and stuff my face with amazing food we are going to go to the San Diego Zoo, La Jolla Cove, Sunset Cliff National Park, Mission Beach, and stand up paddleboarding (SUP). I have a couple friends in the area, so I will let them show us around too!
